Geography:

Grows at the Mediterranean coast of Spain and France, in Greece, Bulgaria and Crimea. Grows in steppes, on steppe meadows, in rare pine forests, on their skirts, on sandy, petrous, often calcareous slopes, on long fallows.

Chemical Content

The plant is characterized by a high accumulation and a broad structural diversity of ecdysteroids, with many having 2-deoxy- and 26-hydroxylated structures. From the aerial part were isolated 2-deoxyecdysone, 2-deoxy-20-hydroxyecdysone, polipodin B, 20-hydroxyecdysone, 26 hydroxypolipodin B, integristerone A, 2,22-diacetate- and 3,22-diacetate-20,26-dihydroxyecdysone, silencoside A, and silencoside D.

Traditional Use and Activity

Plant possesses anabolic, adaptogenic, immunostimulatory, and hepato- and renoprotective activities. Antitumoral activity of extracts of S.viridiflora is taped. As decorative in rock and wildflower gardens.
